Steam Next Fest is now live, and players have encountered a variety of interesting independent titles. Yet, one stands out for its quirky concept. Named Unko Technica, this classic-feel platformer features a protagonist that is actually a dung attempting to travel to a restroom. For those curious, "Unko" means "poop."
Player controls is straightforward: just use a single jump button. In 150 stages, battle boss fights and visit a shop to purchase customizations for your poop character.
Execute your actions carefully, as a mistake means beginning again. Bounce on bubbles to hurl your character to new heights, traverse crumbling surfaces, and activate triggers to unlock new areas. Collect currency for buying tougher levels as gameplay intensifies.
In terms of design, the experience features eye-catching level designs and an amazing soundtrack. The simple visual style with moving geometric shapes evokes memories of fans of old favorites like Earthbound.
Although difficult to recall other games where you are a piece of feces, gaming have long featured toilet humor. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, you can create grenades from protagonist excrement. Examples include Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use manure as plant food. Naturally, this theme shows up extensively in Obsidian's role-playing game The Stick of Truth.
Despite its humorous idea, Unko Technica has already received significant awards, such as being named best at a major publisher's indie contest in 2023. This trial version is ready now on Steam, with the full game scheduled to debut on computers on November 19.
